Database & Guide
Jamaica Beaches is an independent project to create a comprehensive inventory of beaches and sandy coastal areas in Jamaica.
The goal is to document all public beaches, hotel and resort beaches, privately managed beaches, informal community beaches, and unnamed sandy stretches around the island, and provide information on their location, access and current use.
About the Project
Jamaica has approximately 1,022 km of coastline. Various official documents estimate that between 280 and 350 km of this coastline is made up of sandy beaches, depending on how the beaches are classified.
Several existing databases list Jamaican beaches, including those produced by government agencies and tourism organisations. However, many coastal areas are omitted because they fall outside particular definitions of a “public beach,” are privately managed, or are not formally named.
This project aims to document every sandy coastal area around Jamaica, regardless of ownership or access status, and record its location, access and current use.
Discover Jamaica’s Beaches by Parish
There are 14 parishes in Jamaica, and each features a wide variety of public and private beaches.
Hanover Parish Beaches
Hanover Parish is in the West of Jamaica and it features over 50 beaches.

There are 63 beaches in St.James Parish, including over 30 located in Montego Bay area.

Trelawny Parish Beaches
Trelawny features 36 beaches and beautiful mangroves and rocky coastline.

Work in Progress
The research began in July 2025 and so far we have identified over 450 beaches in Jamaica. The research is in progress and the full Jamaica Beach Inventory is expected to be completed by November 2026.
